Instructions for "Little Chickies" Layout, Sarah Groen

Thanks so much to everyone who turned up for my very first class on Tuesday. I hope you had as much fun doing the class as I did teaching it. You were such a talented bunch that you made it all very easy for me. I know that because there were so many techniques to cover most of you didn't finish the layout so here are a list of instructions that I have put together incase you are having problems remembering how it looked. I would love to see your finished pages!
:)Sarah

Step by Step Instructions for ‘My Little Chickies’ LO – Sarah Groen

1. Take the teal 12 x 12 cardstock background and punch right around the outside using the ‘Lattice Entertain You’ Fiskars punch.
2. Cut the prima background paper to 11 x 11 and put aside the offcuts (you will use the reverse side of these strips to frame two sides of your photo)
3. Cut a circular ring mask from scrap cardstock (approx 10” diameter )
4. Lay the ring mask on the centre of your background paper and spray the entire sheet with glimmer mist.
5. Allow a few minutes to dry then carefully lift off the mask taking care not to smudge any damp ink. You should be left with a white ring and misted background.
6. Adhere the background paper to the background cardstock with double sided tape.
7. Adhere your photo within the ring
8. Using red off cut strips frame the upper and right edge of your photo
9. Adhere the prima felt edge underneath your photo along the bottom of your page
10. Position the prima vine along the left border of your photo, gently bending it so that it curves inside the white ring created by the mask
11. Add prima flowers, handmade paper flowers and the handmade satin flower as desired (see below for instructions for making these)
12. Emboss a butterfly into pink vellum using the cuttlebug butterfly edge folder
13. Cut it out and decorate with kindyglitz and rhinestones
14. Adhere to lower right corner of photo
15. Use the Apron lace border punch to punch out a 5” strip from teal swiss dot cardstock
16. Ink the edges and adhere to the upper right edge of LO
17. Cut out a 3” x 1” rectangle from co-coordinating off cut paper or cardstock, round two lower corners and add title with alpha stickers.
18. Use two brads to ‘hang’ the title from the upper apron lace border strip to resemble a sign. Use mini alphas to add additional title words within the border strip if required.
19. Use the bird cage embossing folder and another paper off cut to make a bird cage embellishment to hang from the end of the title border strip in the same way as for the butterfly.

Making satin flowers

1. Cut several different sized circles from satin fabric – the more you cut the plumper your flower will be. The flower on my LO incorporates 8 circles from 2.5” to 0.5” in diameter.
2. Using a tea candle very carefully melt around the edges of each fabric circle. The circle will start to curl upwards as you heat. Continue until you achieve an effect that you like.
3. Layer your circles from largest to smallest and secure them together by stitching on a decorative button or using a decorative brad – pearl brads or buttons work especially well to give a vintage look to your flowers.
4. Spray with glimmer mist if desired.

Making Paper Flowers

1. Cut a circle from double sided patterned paper
2. Lightly draw a spiral in the circle with pencil
3. Cut out the spiral stopping at least 5mm from the centre
4. Erase the pencil lines and ink the edges if desired.
5. Start from the outside and roll to the middle. Another trick is to try to roll the bottom edge a little bit tighter than the top edge. So that the flower will kind of get a cone shape.
6. When you are done rolling up the flower, put glue in the middle part and press the whole flower on top and hold down for a while.
7. You can finish off with glimmer mist and hand cut some leaves and attach under the rose.
